Louisiana General Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester
Course Description:
This is a 40-hour training course designed to train the student in the fundamentals necessary to field-test the various types of backflow prevention assemblies. The course is comprised of a series of
lectures and hands-on training. General Testers are not required to obtain ASSE or ABPA certification at this time.

Learning Outcomes:
- Students will demonstrate how to field test properly operating and malfunctioning backflow prevention assemblies (reduced pressure principle assemby, doublecheck valve assembly, pressure vacuum breaker assembly, and spill resistance vacuum breaker assembly in a controled labortory setting.
- Students will identify hydraulic conditions tin a water distribution system that could allow backflow to occur.
- Students will interpret field test results for backflow prevntion assemblies after conducting the field test.
- Students will identify cross-connections and deternine which backflow prevention assembly should be installed to protect against backflow conditions.
Must Know:
- Attendance is mandatory for all
- Must pass both written and practical exams with 70% or better for certification to be awarded
- Daily breaks are scheduled – please bring or plan to get lunch
